Solstice Season: Preparing for Summer with Intention & Ease

June is a threshold month - a quiet, expansive bridge between spring’s reawakening and summer’s full bloom. The light stretches longer each day, the mornings arrive earlier, and nature itself feels like it’s in a state of anticipation. I believe in honoring these seasonal shifts by adjusting how we care for our bodies, our minds, and our daily rhythms. It’s not about doing more - it’s about doing what’s most beneficial for us in this season of adundance and warmer days.

As we approach the Summer Solstice on June 20th, the longest day of the year, I find myself craving less rush, giving way to more space to just be, and simple rituals that reconnect me to what matters most: connecting to my intuition, nourishing my body, and presence with those I love.

Here’s how I’m preparing for summer - intentionally and easefully.

Aligning With the Light

This is the ideal time of year to begin waking with the sun, or at least closer to it. The early morning hours hold a kind of quiet clarity that’s deeply regulating to the nervous system. Rising earlier helps me feel less reactive, more grounded, and in rhythm with nature’s cues.

Try this:

Start your day outside, even if just for 5 minutes. Bare feet on the ground, sunlight on your face, a few rounds of deep breaths. This simple act signals to your body that it’s safe and that you’re supported for the day ahead.

Letting Go of “Spring Energy”

Spring is full of momentum - cleansing, starting fresh, initiating new routines. But June invites a subtle slowing. Summer asks us to soften, to receive, to enjoy more.

My mantra this month: Slower is still forward.

Allow your routines to breathe. Swap intense workouts for long walks or soulful yoga flows. Say no to one more thing on your calendar. Create space to just be with zero guilt.

Creating a Solstice Ritual

The Solstice is a sacred moment and a seasonal pause. You don’t need to do anything elaborate. I love marking the Solstice with a simple ritual that brings me inward and reminds me of the beauty in pausing in stillness.

Ideas for your own Solstice ritual:

  • Light a candle at sunrise or sunset and set an intention for the season ahead.

  • Make an herbal iced tea with cooling plants like mint, rose, or lemon balm.

  • Journal on this: What am I ready to receive this summer? What do I want to feel more of? What am I willing to release?

Eating with the Season

In Ayurveda, early summer is about balancing rising heat (Pitta energy) with foods that are cooling, hydrating, and light. I lean into:

  • Cucumber, mint, watermelon, and coconut

  • Fresh herbs in everything - especially cilantro and basil

  • Light broths, sautéed greens, and fruits - especially berries

  • A little lime or lemon on almost everything to keep digestion sharp without heaviness

Living Slower, On Purpose

This season is not about chasing more - it’s about choosing better. More quality, less quantity. Whether it’s how you spend your time, how you nourish yourself, or how you restore your energy, I encourage you to give yourself permission to slow down where you can.

Wherever you are, let this month be a turning point. A cue to soften. A moment to come back home to your body, your breath, your inner rhythm.

We don’t need to keep up. We need to tune in.

🌞 Journal Prompts for June

  • What is feeling heavy or urgent that I can choose to release?

  • What does “ease” mean to me right now?

  • Where can I invite more slowness or softness into my days?

  • How do I want to feel this summer?

Wishing you a beautiful month of June. May your days be full of light.
