The Portal to the Self - Journaling

Journaling has become an essential non-negotiable daily practice of mine, though it wasn’t always this way. It took me a long time to develop my personal cadence with journaling and it took me years to find consistency. I would buy the perfect journal with the intention to start, try different gratitude prompts, set timers, all of it. Eventually something clicked. One day I found something I wrote a year prior and realized that everything I had written down that I had wanted had happened! And I had completely forgotten that I wrote those things down and had forgotten I ever wanted them in the first place. This was when I started to get curious.

Journaling is beyond just putting words on paper - it is a portal to self-discovery, clarity, manifestation, and deep transformation. It is a sacred space to sit in the morning and let my thoughts flow, reflect on things, and let my wishes be revealed. I look at journaling as a dialogue with myself and each time I write it’s as though I’m creating a mirror for my emotions, beliefs, patterns, and desires to be reflected back to me. Your subconscious comes to life. We all know we are the key holders to the answers we seek, and by writing we are able to access our inner wisdom by quieting the external noise and allowing for our intuition to come through.
Tips to begin a journaling practice & to make it stick:
Start Small & Keep it Simple
Don’t pressure yourself to write pages and pages. Begin with a few sentences or bullet points each day.
Make it a Ritual
Attach journaling to an existing habit, like waiting for the morning coffee to brew, after meditation, to create consistency.
Use Prompts for Inspiration
When you’re unsure what to write, try prompts like “What’s one thing I’m grateful for today?” or “What’s on my mind right now?”
Let Go of Perfection
Your journal is for you and no one else. No need for perfect handwriting, deep insights, or polished entries. Let it be free!
Make it Enjoyable
Choose a notebook and pen you love, set up a cozy space, or add music and tea to make it a moment of self-care.
Stay Flexible
If you miss a day ( or a week ) don’t stress! Simply pick up where you left off and keep going.
Start with one sentence, one thought, or commit to one page. Let it be messy. Let it be real. Let it be yours. You will no doubt meet yourself in the most authentic way, and uncover your truth, dreams, and more. If you’re seeking more clarity, growth, self-connection, or are in need of an answer, try picking up a pen and seeing where it takes you! I guarantee it will change your life in the best and most surprising ways.
